Danny Yeo hosted for The Battleship Island movie promotional events – both the one-and-only public meet-and-greet session at Suntec City and the exclusive by-invitation-only gala premiere at Marina Bay Sands Sands Theatre.
The war-action blockbuster was directed by Ryoo Seung-Wan, a humble and down-to-earth director who was warm and friendly throughout the events, and impressed many with his epic award-winning movies. The movie starred Hwang Jung-min (the real leading star), So Ji-sub and Song Joong-ki, who were all in Singapore for the star tour. Singapore is the first country out of Korea to host the movie promotional tour.
Co-distributed by Clover Films and Golden Village Pictures Singapore, the movie opened on 17 August 2017 in Singapore. The Korean stars brought huge crowds to the two venues as evident in the photos.
The Battleship Island told the dark real-life history of forced Korean labourers during World War II. The movie opened in Korea and broke all Korean box office records. There were 1 million admissions on the opening day itself.
