Speak Mandarin Campaign 2019 40th Anniversary Celebration
Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Auditorium
22 Oct 2019 (Tue), 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Pure Talents veteran emcee Danny Yeo was specially appointed to host this important event with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as the Guest of Honour, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Speak Mandarin Campaign in Singapore.
2019 marks the 40th anniversary of this nationwide campaign that was first launched in 1979 by then prime minister the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Over the years, its tasks and objectives have transformed. Now, besides encouraging Chinese Singaporeans to speak Mandarin, the campaign also hopes to allow better understanding of the language’s values and beauty. At the launch ceremony, the new tagline “Speak Mandarin? Yes I can.” was revealed by PM Lee and special guests. Special performances also gave a quick glimpse to the programmes offered at a weekend carnival organised by Promote Mandarin Council at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre.
Danny was a council member of the Promote Mandarin Council from 2008 to 2011, and he shared about his passion, enthusiasm and sense of contribution to the nation with those years of active involvement.
